Thankfully, Socks is feeling better .. appetite back and watching the squirrels intently. The vets aren't sure what the problem is/was. Addison's has been ruled out. They now think it may be some sort of spinal issue and will re-check in a week after he finishes the drugs he is on. They are talking about a referral to a neuro specialist and MRI or acupuncture. If anyone has any input, I know that Sock's Mom would appreciate it! She is hoping that it might just have been a sprain and some enforced rest will take care of the problem. ... See MoreSee Less

We cannot thank Dennis and Fran enough for taking on the "girls" at a time we were swamped and knew their being in a kennel would not be right, especially at their age. These girls were once loved but relegated to the back yard after their owner became ill and as a result had minimal human contact for several years. While they were wild when we had to catch them in their large backyard, the minute we got them in the car there were ear kisses all around. We are also grateful to Rio Bravo Veterinary hospital for the wonderful and much needed care they provided.

Please consider following in the footsteps of Dennis and Fran and adopt a senior.

Dennis and I had just lost our 2 precious Airedales, Ace last September and Daisy last October. In December, we agreed to foster two 8-year-old female Airedales, Chotzi and Chance. These dogs had not seen the inside of a house from anywhere between 1 to 5 years. We did not know what to expect since we never fostered a dog right out of a rescue situation. We were pleasantly surprised to see that “the girls” adjusted to the car ride home so we were very optimistic.

Once home, we let them get the lay of the land inside the house and outside. The inside of the house was less intimidating than the outside, most likely because they were outside for a very, very long time. They stayed put inside the house and were very content to do so. We always had inside dogs so this did not surprise us. Since they lived outside for a very long time, they were not housebroken and as you can imagine, there were several accidents. The days became easier and we took turns at night sleeping on the couch so that there would not be any additional accidents. After several weeks of training, they are now pretty much housebroken.

The girls were very happy to be with humans from the start and easily showed their affection to us. They just needed a little tender loving care. We gave them some dog toys and it seemed like they never had dog toys before. It did not take long for them to decide their favorites. In addition, Chotzi has taken a liking to our shoes, sandals, and sneakers. She does not chew them, it is like her collection of things from her new humans.

At first they did not drink water in the house, only outside. Now they drink inside as well as outside.

The first time we left them alone in the house, we found that they enjoyed themselves to the trash and had chewed and spread everything in the kitchen and living room. It was actually funny to see all the trash all over the place but now we put the trash out in the garage when we leave the house.

Chotzie and Chance get daily walks from me and they are getting much better on a leash. Chance is very, very strong and I am much more cautious with her. She seems to want to pull when she sees another human or dog. Chotzi is still a little skittish but is much improved.

It has been about 5 months since we have had “the girls”. We adopted them in March and cannot imagine life without them. They are so loving and sweet, and very appreciative of living with us. Not a day goes by where they don’t thank us for taking them in.

We are so very lucky to have these two girls. We think they rescued us and we rescued them!

Thank you for adopting those girls! You two are very special people.

How wonderful! P.S. Something like the Freedom harness could help with pulling and maybe prevent an accident. 🙂

My Wojo's recall word is TREAT TREAT. Works 100%. When construction guy left gate open, I saw Wojo run toward a busy street with the guy in pursuit (I scolded him later). I opened the door, yelled TREAT TREAT. He stopped, turned around and zoomed in. And he got a treat. Every time.

Hahaha...I dropped to the floor and screamed and 2 of them ran OVER my body to get to the food in the kitchen...

A dear friend just posted: Do not use Pine-Sol anywhere in your house or anywhere near your dogs. Archie had his first ever seizure last Sunday..he is 9 and it is very rare for an older dog to start having seizures according to the vet emergency hospital. I had bought a bottle of Pine-Sol because of a suggestion on Facebook to spray it around patio tables to get rid of flies. The cap on the bottle had become loose and leaked in the plastic bag it was in. Archie got a good whiff of it when he was watching me unload my grocery bags and 90 minutes later he had a full blown grand mal seizure for almost two minutes, foaming at the mouth. I DON'T WANT ANY OTHER PET OWNER TO GO THROUGH THIS

*** I did a search on Google and found this!

Pine, in particular, can be quite toxic to dogs and can cause seizures, so be sure not to use pine scented or infused cleaners. Also, if you get a real tree, come Christmas time, don't let your dog drink the water out of the bottom of the tree.

OK, so I'm probably sending too many pics but this was too cute not to share. A high school kid who mows our lawn brought me some antlers for flower decorations. Penny decided THIS ONE was hers; drug it out of the flower bed, into the middle of the lawn, and went to work on it.

Wish I could have gotten a pic of her carrying it.

nice! Makes my little antler look like nothing.

Now that’s the prize ! I wonder if it’s the same as those tiny antlers being sold for lots of money ?

Update on Penny:
Here she is with her new fence and 'new' yard. She loves it all!
I had more help than I needed putting in plants and the fence contractor, more than once, found an Airedale head poking between his legs or under his arm or into his tool bucket.

Sure know your pain. So sorry.🙏♥️

So sorry for your loss. We know your pain. We lost our third Airedale a little more than a year ago leaving a big hole in our hearts. After more than 32 years of having Airedales in our lives we are at the same point in our senior lives as to wanting another Airedale but feel a smaller dog would be better. Of course it would have to be a terrier. We agree with you there. Our memories of our 3 Airedales help in the healing process. We think of them often and know they are having a great time being together again, happy and pain free. Judy & Glenn

So sorry for your loss. They are wonderful dogs. We had one for 13 years. 💕💔

Oh what a lovely post. I'm sobbing....these animals are a blessing and a heartache I know.....lost many a good friend. I know they're all waiting for me. Thank you for sharing and just know there's always a little fur ball that needs your love.

💔

Jeanne - I put our dale down last month and am feeling your pain. Yes, the best breed ever. We miss our Annie but we sent her up to relieve her pain as well. So sorry for your loss.

Penny is just the happiest girl. We gave her the first hair cut yesterday, standing her on top of my potting table. She did great. Of course, hot dog bits helped a lot 😉

In the morning she likes to get all her toys out and play with them for a few minutes each one.

Four little boys who live behind us have been afraid of large dogs. Now they see her in the yard and come running out to pet her through the fence, calling "Penny, Penny, come see us!"

Do you have an Airedale princess?Fantasy rosettes, flowers, bugs, butterflies and more, for a dog collar, harness or halter. Detachable, adjustable pet accessory. A jewelry for a fur Princess made with beads, crystals, sequins, lace, feathers, and even a few vintage treasures found in our historic Victorian town! A girrrrlie doggie blingy baubles for a true connoisseur of all things beautiful and sweet :).

Oh, these are so much FUN to make. I recently made the first one (modeled by our beautiful Miss Gwendi here) and got swept off my feet by how much Joy it brings me to create these. There are so many more ideas in my head now! I will be adding new photos to this album as the new adornments come to life on my beading desk. Come check them out soon!

You can expect the same quality and detailing of my work and top-grade materials that you got used to when you buy my jewelry for yourself. If I can't make my absolute BEST, then I wont' make it at all <3.

A word of caution: Please never ever ever leave your precious dog wearing this or any other dog accessories when not under your supervision: the beads are glass and crystal, and are SHARP if crushed or chewed on. The ornament can cause chocking or a bowel obstruction if swallowed, whole or parts of it. Please keep your dog safe. Thank you!

It's a shame some people think these creatures are disposable. I would never give up my airedale or any other pet/animal just because I was moving....BUT sounds like Buster got the BEST end of the deal with a forever home with Sallie! What a handsome boy! The minute I saw my Jack on the SWAT site I applied for adoption and prayed we would qualify for him! Of course, he has been with us now 3 or so years now... He'll be 10 in May! Congratulations Buster and Sallie!

Wonderful that some people still take rescue serious and even adopting. Mine turned 10 today, got him a five, love him to death.

What a win-win for Dale and new BFF! Let me be NEEEEEXT!!!!!

So happy that one of our friends was able to adopt this sweetie! Amy Wicks ... See MoreSee Less

What a cutie

My, what nice ears you have, all the better to hear kitties trying to sneak by.

Zonked our after a walk. She was spayed on Thursday, thus the bald belly.

Ah that's great!

Lots of information here about the dog flu ( H3N8 and H3N2) including an outbreak map so you can see if one or both are in your area.

Anyone have suggestions for Sharon? Our lovely Kelsey - who came to us emaciated, after spending her entire six years on a chain in the Sacramento Mountains and had never had a grooming or shots - has come so far in her year with us - she is plump and seems mostly happy - so sweet and loving - is now suffering from hair loss. She is being tested for thyroid issues. Does anyone have any suggestions for diet or other care? Thank you - we love her so much! ... See MoreSee Less

poor baby

Repos bien mérité

My Airedale is allergic to Bermuda grass and will lose hair on her hips. we have planted blue grass ot stop the hair lose.

🙏 for her

Try working on her gut, with probiotics and digestive enzymes. Company called Nyzmes. Check them out. Great success using their products

Our family has had 3 Airedales, 2 rescue.

To help Sammy's hair grow in I fed him 2 raw eggs beat in to cottage cheese twice a day.

Food allergies?!

What did the thyroid panel show? Sometimes low thyroid is the reason for poor hair and bringing thyroid levels up with the medication will fix the hair issues (and many others that seem unrelated, too!).

I want to adopt an Airedale I live in Orange County California anyone know of any available?

I was wondering what the panel said too. if that gives you a place to starte great. If not and the vet doing the panel is not a dermatologist (aka alergist) then perhaps move on to that type of specialist. Hope you r able to solve and address this soon.

Have you check her for allergies? My male AIRE had a terrible time with skin allergies, especially his paws. Had to watch where I walked him as he was highly allergic to some of the weeds in the field and grasses - not to mention those lawns that were sprayed by lawn care services.

Hi miss Lizzie. Good girl!🐾🐕🌹

Oh ça c est tout à fait ma chienne jolie

Hallo pretty Miss Lizzie 🐾

Lucky Mr. Edison gets to go to work with his mom. She said he does extremely well and gets to visit with many people. Mom says that he is gaining confidence, but that his leg does still bother him from time to time. We will meet at the vet on Monday for an x-ray. Hopefully we will then be moving on to the next phase of his recovery .. removal of the pins. ... See MoreSee Less

What a handsome boy!🐾🐕

Belle louloutte

Good luck, you are handsome

The x-rays look great. The bone is still remodeling, but he is ahead of schedule We will probably remove the pins in late February. Once he has healed from that, the repaired leg should ask just as strong as the other.

Socks Ever Vigilant.
Today he alerted on 3 beautiful Coyotes, yesterday 9 Javelina.
Have never seen him so frantic. With the oak leaves down and snow cover, critters stand out in sharp relief. Window sills taking a beating. Happy Friday all!

ARIZONA TAX PAYERS

Remember that Arizona passed HB2523, a bill that allows Arizona residents to make a voluntary contribution via a check off box to fund affordable spay/neuter services throughout Arizona. Monies raised via this voluntary check off program will be administered at no additional cost through an existing fund. The hope is that more affordable spay and neuter programs will result in a decrease in shelter intake.

SWAT got word of an Airedale with another rescue. They help out a lady who saves all kinds of dogs in Mexico. They take down supplies and bring back dogs to place. They were not interested in turning him over to SWAT, so we put out the word to our adopters and supporters. We were very pleased (and relieved) that one of our families was able to adopt him. He was named Rufus by the other rescue, but the family decided that Romeo was a more appropriate name for this sweet boy. ... See MoreSee Less

The SWAT family's hearts go out to the Schwartz family as they mourne the loss of Mac (Mack Truck).

Our loyal playful handsome buddy Mac crossed over the “Rainbow Bridge “ this morning after a valiant fight with cancer. This wonderful boy was in remission for melanoma and a lung tumor when he was hit fast and hard with lymphoma. We are thankful to Dr. Betsy Hershey, Phoenix oncology vet, for giving him two additional years by enrolling him in the research trial from the University if Wisconsin. The lymphoma came out of the blue a month ago. Thank you Southwest Airedale Terrier Rescue for bringing him into our lives in December 2010. He took a piece of our hearts with him and left pieces of his with us. His buddy Stella, SWAT rescue 2015, is mighty sad. We know he is resting now after giving life his all.
